How this estimate is calculated
- Tile count always rounds up. You can only buy whole tiles, so the figure is rounded up to the nearest tile after your waste allowance is added.
- Waste allowance covers cuts and breakages. 10% is typical for a straight layout — diagonal or herringbone patterns often need 15-20% instead.
- Tile size changes the maths a lot. Smaller tiles mean more cuts and more grout lines, which is one reason larger format tiles can work out more cost-effective to lay.
- Calculated in your browser. Your measurements and prices are used locally to produce this estimate. If you choose to send a quote request, your estimate and selected answers are included in that request. Read our Privacy Policy for how requests and website usage information are handled.
These are planning estimates, not quotes or an original market survey. See Sources and methodology for assumptions, limitations and research references.
